Things That Are Bad For Acid Reflux | Fitness and Health Tips Today

If you experience frequent heartburn you may well have begun researching what foods help with symptoms and have come across a huge list of suspects.

You might well be forgiven for thinking that life after acid reflux could be a little on the boring side, certainly as far as food is concerned.

Read about acid reflux in any magazine or newspaper and all they seem to be telling you is to cut out all your favorite foods and drinks, eat boring, low calorie, low fat foods with no taste and whatever you do?..do not drink alcohol or caffeine.

Constant heartburn and acid indigestion wears you out, is tiring and just plain unpleasant. You begin to think that you are prepared to do almost anything to stop it.

All of us have bad habits that we have acquired thoughout our lives and some of them are bad habits that will aggravate acid reflux.

Why do you think that heartburn is prevalent in people over forty? We have had longer to develop the bad habits.

Do you eat too quickly? ? slow down ? You will improve your digestion and probably eat less into the bargain, both will help with acid indigestion.
Eat too much? ? eating smaller meals and eating more frequently is better than large gut busting meals
How much alcohol do you drink? ? Alcoholic drinks relax the muscle at the base of the esophagus and contributes to heartburn and acid reflux.
Do you eat late at night? ? Try not to eat within two or three hours of your normal bedtime. It will help with acid reflux and also help control your weight.
Are you overweight ? Diet. Carrying extra weight is a major cause of acid reflux disease as fat stored around your internal organs puts pressure on your stomach, and it?s doing the same to your heart!!
Love junk food? That was not a command. If so, try to eat less of it. Fresh is best where heartburn is concerned.

Do Your Research?

When you read the huge list of foods to avoid for heartburn you might well panic. Don?t. It is a list of foods that are suspected of causing or aggravating acid reflux. Simply because it?s on a list doesn?t mean that you mustn?t eat it.

Keep a diary! Each time that you get indigestion, write down what you had to eat before it started. It?s also worth thinking about what you were doing before you got acid indigestion. Lie down after eating and no matter what you have eaten you will get acid indigestion. Bend over so that your stomach is compressed ? and you will get acid reflux. Exercise too soon after eating ? and you develop acid reflux.
