Why Sometimes Diet and Exercise Wont Help You Lose Fat | Best ...

In this article I?d like to talk about a big problem that pops up constantly in our health & fitness business. Customers and clients come to me asking for advice because a particular diet program they?re on isn?t working. I?d like to talk about why sometimes diet and exercise wont help you lose fat.

Believe it or not this is a very common story we hear. I?ll use a woman named Susie as an example. Susie comes to us and says, ?Clay and Derek. I started this diet plan and have been following it very strictly. I?m eating all the right foods. And, I?m even exercising consistently. But nothing is happening. I?m not losing any fat. What?s the deal??

What?s Susie?s problem? Is it bad genetics? Is she destined to be fat? Is the diet program all wrong? Are the foods she eating bad for fat loss?

Most of the time the answer to these questions is ?No?. A lot of popular diets out there are based on good theory and should work for fat loss. And most people aren?t destined to be fat. That?s a load of crap but I?ll save this for another article.

The problem is internal issues. Your body?s digestive tract and metabolism have been damaged to a point that no matter how healthily you?re eating it doesn?t matter.

We refer to this as ?turbulence?.

Turbulence is just a simple term to refer to a state your body goes into when your body refuses to digest foods properly? and debris begin to accumulate in your digestive tract.

This wreaks havoc on your internal systems, leads to a slow metabolism, spikes in insulin, and the storage of a lot of fat.

Most if not all of our overweight clients are at least partially in a state of turbulence.

And when your body isn?t digesting foods properly your body cannot get all the nutrients it needs. Thus, it doesn?t matter how healthy a particular food is, your body doesn?t get what it needs? and this leads your system to think it?s in starvation mode? which leads to more fat gain!

This is why it?s often harder for people who are overweight to lose fat than people who have less fat. And this is why even the best diet will fail you if your body is in this state of turbulence, and not digesting foods correctly.

Turbulence is why sometimes diet and exercise wont help you lose fat. Your body is too damaged to respond.

It?s a very frustrating realization for most people? and it?s what leads a lot of smart folks to blame the diets they?re on and begin the negative cycle of thinking they?re ?destined? to be fat forever.

The solution is what we call the ?Flow? state and you can read about it here: BodyResetProgram.com/Flow.

Breast Cancer Victim Denied Medicaid Because He's a Man ...

I?m right wing. Stop the waste and stupid-spending first. Then close tax loopholes. Then, if the US must have new revenue, get millionaires off government benefits of any kind: farm subsidies, VA, Social Security, Medicare, green energy??then we?ll talk about a national sales tax to get some money from crooks/illegals???then talk about raising taxes after those things have been taken care of.

Weirdest theme hotels across America

On your next vacation, would you opt to sleep in a trailer, a jail or a giant beagle? America is home to a variety of oddball theme hotels, and they aren?t just roadside curiosities.

Slideshow: America?s weirdest theme hotels

In Boston, travelers can stay at the Liberty Hotel, a 300-room complex that used to be ? and still resembles ? the notorious Charles Street Jail.

Operating since 1851, the jail was closed in 1990 after a U.S. district court declared it too decrepit and overcrowded to house prisoners. After a transformative renovation, it reopened in 2007 as a trendsetting mega-hotel that retains what developer Richard L. Friedman calls its ?jailiness.?

The Liberty?s exterior remains imposing, and the building still contains catwalks and iron bars. Director Sean Reardon credits the design for the hotel?s popularity: ?When you look at our competitors, they?re just boxes with a sign.? Guests don?t actually sleep in the former slammer (most of the rooms are located in an adjacent, newly built 16-story tower), but Alibi bar occupies what used to be the drunk tank, a cell for those apprehended while intoxicated.

The Liberty isn?t the only high-end hotel to reclaim an abandoned space. Portland, Ore.'s, Kennedy School Hotel occupies a former elementary school. Other sites dismiss traditional buildings altogether: Arizona?s Shady Dell is a cluster of retro trailers, and Jules? Undersea Lodge features a network of suites submerged in Florida?s Largo Sound (guests need scuba training to check in). The Winvian in serene Litchfield Hills, Conn., boasts a collection of cottages that evoke a golf course, a helicopter hangar and the inside of a beaver?s den, respectively.

In the ultra-strange category, there?s Dog Bark Park Inn. Husband-and-wife owners Dennis Sullivan and Frances Conklin found success in the ?90s on the QVC shopping channel with their chainsaw-carved wooden dogs. They wanted to go bigger and eventually constructed Sweet Willy, a single-suite bed and breakfast shaped like a massive beagle.

Dog Bark Park may register high on the novelty scale, but as its near-perfect travel-site scores attest, guests love the unusual B&B. In the peace and quiet of Cottonwood, Idaho (population: 944), the big dog flaunts its lack of a TV. ?It?s an added luxury not to have it,? says Sullivan.

To fully enjoy any theme hotel, it also helps to be passionate about the motif. Sullivan knows this important fact about his clientele: ?They?re dog lovers, of course.?

Hurricane Irene to deliver blow to economy

(AP) ? As Hurricane Irene roars toward the East Coast __ home to some of the country's most densely populated cities and costliest waterfront real estate __ experts are forecasting a multibillion-dollar disaster.

Hurricane Irene is expected to make landfall in North Carolina as a Category 2 storm early Saturday, then move up the Eastern Seaboard, where more than 50 million people from the Carolinas to Massachusetts could be in the path of heavy rain and tropical-force winds. The economic impact of the hurricane largely will depend on factors that include the storm's size, where it makes landfall, and the speed at which it's moving when it hits the coast. But experts already are forecasting billions of dollars in losses.

"It's probably going to be very damaging," said Roger Pielke, a University of Colorado professor and fellow of the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences.

A computer model of Irene's potential impact puts the estimated damage at $4.7 billion, according to research by Pielke and catastrophe-insurance provider ICAT. That figure, which came from analyzing 27 comparable storms dating back to 1913, includes destruction of homes, cars, public infrastructure and other property caused by high winds and flooding. The number doesn't factor in the added impact of lost sales from shuttered restaurants, quiet casinos, canceled flights and boarded-up stores __ all of which could add billions of dollars to the fallout.

Statistician Nate Silver, who crunched the data for his New York Times blog, puts the worst-case estimate at $35 billion -- half of New York City's annual budget -- if Irene were to pass directly over Manhattan with 100 mile-per-hour winds. While the odds of a direct hit on the city are slim, a Category 2 storm passing within 50 miles of downtown would cause $10 billion in damage, according to Silver's model.

Some are drawing comparisons to the New England Hurricane of 1938, nicknamed "The Long Island Express," which packed 100-mile-per-hour winds when it made landfall in New York and destroyed 8,900 homes across southern New England. Were the same storm to occur today, it would cause $46.2 billion in property damage, according to ICAT, because the coastal regions it hit are now home to many more businesses and expensive homes.

"Everybody wants to live by the ocean," says Chris Hackett, director of personal lines policy at the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America, who notes that as much as two-thirds of the New York's insured property value is along the coast.

On the less-severe side of ICAT's Irene model are East Coast storms that wreaked less havoc. In 1985, Gloria resulted in $2.5 billion in damage (adjusted to 2011) after it made landfall on Long Island, N.Y., as a Category 1 storm with 85-mile-per-hour winds. Hurricane Belle, which hit New York in 1976, caused just $570 million in damage, despite 90-mile-per-hour winds.

The impact is expected to be significant for the nation as a whole because the major metro areas that will be affected, including New York City, Philadelphia, Boston, Baltimore and Washington, account for 16 percent of national economic output and 14 percent of total employment, according to Moody's economist Ryan Sweet.

"If damage is severe and disrupts production for several days, there will be a noticeable impact on the national economy for August," says Sweet. But he expects any lost output to be made up in subsequent months as construction firms go to work rebuilding and consumers replace damaged property, so he isn't revising his quarterly GDP growth estimate of 1.5 percent annualized.

"Of course, that could all change after this weekend," he says.

Parents: How to Deal with Kids Begging for Pets | Pets and Animals ...

We all have our reasons for either allowing a pet, or not allowing it.? We have to make those reasons clear to the child.? If it is a simply matter such as the landlord will not allow a pet, then explain it to them that way, but never lie or blame somebody if that is not the case.? If there are household allergies to cats, your child may soon counter act with wanting an Iguana, so you also need to determine if your answer is ?NO? to all pets, or just to some.?

Pets are a lot of work, I have several pets from tiny walking stick insects to larger outdoor animals such as horses, however you may not share my love for animals, nor my willingness to commit my time to feeding and caring for them.? Everyone is different, above all children MUST understand that a pet is a lifetime commitment, and in most cases they are not able to make that commitment, so it rests on you as an adult to accept the full responsibility for an animal.? Kids will promise the moon if they think it will mean you will say yes, but as an adult we? have to realize they are just saying what they think we want to hear.? To expect a child to care fully for a pet, is unfair to the child, and ultimately unfair to the pet.

So you have to decide, does ?NO? mean ?no? or does it mean ?Maybe?.? Never say ?Maybe? if you don?t mean it.?
Ask yourself? if there are?any pets you would allow.? Pets are great for keeping children focused, for showing them that there are other things to be compassionate about.? Pets teach responsibility, and in some cases encourage activity for otherwise lazy kids.? So consider?this and?possibly come to a mutual agreement.

If there is no way you are getting any pet, you have to tell your child this, and make it clear that you do not want to be asked again.? Set a punishment for them and stick to it, if they ask again, no television for 2 days.? If however you are open to suggestions here is what you do.

1? Have?your child write a list of what pets they might want, along with at least 3 pros and cons for each.?

2? Have your child write a weekly plan on how they are going to give time for care to this pet as well as other responsibilites such as school and friends.

3??Have your child show commitment by keeping their room clean and helping with housework.? Remember though, not to use this as a cheap way to get more help, only ask them to do this if you are really considering getting a pet.

4? If money is a concern, have the child show willingness to sacrifce somethings in order to allow you to have more money for pet supplies and such.? An example would be if a child said they didn?t need so many new clothes, or was willing to get rid of their cell phone if they have one.

5 Review the childs list and other actions.

6? Reseach the pets for yourself.? One of the best ways to get honest information about any pet, is to go to your local Animal Shelter or SPCA ( a vet can tell you if you have one in your area if you do not know) you can go and look at the pets, and talk to the staff about an animals requirements, as well as the pros and cons.? Shelter staff will be far more open and honest than a pet store employee who mearly wants a sale.? Shelters have the main interest of having the pet get a forever home.

7 Make it 100% clear to the child that you are getting a pet on your terms with their agreement to help care for it (help care for it means you still have to oversee that the care is provided and fill in when they cannot).? Tell them not to beg further and set a time frame for looking at getting a pet, be honest, stick to it.?

Now when you are ready to get a pet, again I would suggest the shelter as a first place to look, unless you want a purebred registered pet, in which case you are best to find a reputable breeder.? Shelters have lower prices on the whole and are more honest.? I have seen all too many innocent first time pet owners be taken advantage of, and overcharged by pet stores and back yard breeders.? As a rule if a pet does not have registration papers, and its parents do not have show records to prove they were worthy of being bred, the cost for that pet should be exactly what the shelters charge for adoptions.

Additionally you should never pay a cent for a pet that has not been seen by a vet, vaccinated, or dewormed (as in the case of cats and dogs mostly).? Pet Stores and Back yard breeders are in the business for profit, so you could very well be paying too much for what you get, and they generally will not stand behind the animal they sold to you, so ?buyer beware?.? Reputable Breeders and Shelters will offer guarantees and contracts.?? Do your research too, don?t get the wrong breed of dog for example and regret it later.?

Finally all pets should be ?FAMILY PETS? never belonging soley to a child.? If you need to make a medical decision for the pet, it is your decision as an adult to make, if the child moves out and cannot take the pet with them, the animals life is yours to look after, not to abandon.? Good luck with making the right choice.?

Strong earthquake hits northern Peru near Brazil (AP)

LIMA, Peru ? A strong but deep earthquake shook a sparsely populated northern jungle region on Wednesday near Brazil's border. There were no reports of damage or injuries.

The quake had a magnitude of 7.0 and was centered 50 miles (80 kilometers) north of the jungle city of Pucallpa, said Peru's Geophysical Institute and the U.S. Geological Survey.

It was felt mildly in the capital, Lima. But in Pucallpa, buildings shook, trees swayed, and people headed out into the street. The agencies said the quake struck at 12:46 p.m. local time (1:46 p.m. EDT; 1746 GMT), centered 90 miles (145 kilometers) underground. The deeper the quake, the less it is likely to cause damage.

An unidentified local woman interviewed by Peru's Canal N television station said the earth swayed "like a hammock."

"A great rattling" is how Pucallpa police official Angela Romero described it.

She said people moved calmly into the street.

A police spokesman in the Brazilian town of Cruzeiro do Sul, about 135 miles (220 kilometers) northeast of Pucallpa, said the quake hit hard and buildings trembled. The official spoke on condition of anonymity as he was not authorized to comment publicly.

An official of Peru's Institute of Geophysics said that because of its depth, the quake only felt like a 5-magnitude quake to Pucallpa's residents. The official was not allowed to be identified by name.

Peru is among the world's most seismically active countries.

Its most recent deadly quake occurred on Aug. 15, 2007. The 7.9-magnitude temblor killed 596 people and largely destroyed the coastal city of Pisco just south of Lima.

Club Drug Has Potential as a Cancer Treatment (ContributorNetwork ...

The popular club drug, ecstasy, is showing promise as a possible cancer treatment. Scientists are looking at derivatives of the drug to treat different blood cancers such as lymphoma, leukemia and myeloma. The derivative being used is modified, as an unmodified version at the dose necessary to kill a tumor would be fatal to a human.

Lead researcher John Gordon of the University of Birmingham says, ?This is an exciting next step towards using a modified form of MDMA to help people suffering from blood cancer. While we wouldn?t wish to give people false hope, the results of this research hold the potential for improvements in treatment for years to come,? reports WebMD.

Ecstasy is chemically similar to methamphetamine, a stimulant. We already use methamphetamines in medicine. Granted, they are different than ecstasy and are, of course, controlled, but they are chemically similar and benefit millions of patients. We most often see this type of drug medically prescribed as a treatment for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and for obesity.

Ecstasy is also being looked at for its potential as a treatment for Parkinson?s disease and post-traumatic stress. For Parkinson?s disease, ?researchers at Duke University, North Carolina, have found that ecstasy may reverse the symptoms of Parkinson?s disease in mice. The researchers say the findings indicate that drugs could be made with similar effects to offer useful alternatives to current therapies,? reports The Independent.

Once you begin to move beyond basic background information, you begin to realize that there?s more to Health News than you may have first thought.

Of course, as research indicates, the version used for treating blood cancers and other conditions would be a modified version. The ecstasy that has become a popular club drug has lethal potential and can cause a variety of unpleasant and dangerous side effects ranging from nausea, sweating and chills to interfering with body temperature regulation and muscle cramping.

It is a dangerous drug in its street form. It is also a drug that has a potential for a abuse, therefore, scientists are searching for a way to make it therapeutic and effective for medicinal purposes while removing as much of the danger as possible.

Leukemia and Lymphoma Research scientific director Dr. David Grant said, ?Many types of lymphoma remain hard to treat and nontoxic drugs which are both effective and have few side effects are desperately needed. Further work is required but this research is a significant step forward in developing a potential new cancer drug,? reports The Guardian.

While research is still in the very early stages, it looks promising. Scientists believe that further work with the ecstasy derivatives could eventually lead to patient trials.
